Brass Studies at UND

The UND Brass Area offers outstanding instruction from world-class faculty. Brass students at UND are provided the opportunity to perform in a variety of chamber ensembles, and frequently travel to national and international conferences and musical events.

Brass artists of international reputation are brought to campus on a regular basis. Recent guest artists include the St. Louis Brass, Dallas Brass, Tine Thing Helseth, Bobby Shew, Ken Shiffrin, Brian Bowman, and Øystein Baadsvik.

Past UND brass students have enjoyed much success in their chosen musical discipline, including careers as performers, educators, and music therapists.

Horn Studio

The UND horn studio fosters a fun and supportive atmosphere. UND strives to incorporate creative endeavors and use of technology into teaching, while staying strongly rooted in fundamentals and musicality. Members of the horn studio have many opportunities to play chamber music, learn from guest artists, and travel to relevant conferences.

Low Brass Studio

The University of North Dakota Low Brass Studio provides students a complete music education that combines first-rate private instruction with a variety of both large ensemble and chamber performance opportunities.

Dakota Brass Studio

The Dakota Brass Studio is an ensemble consisting of brass faculty at the University of North Dakota. We perform  featured concerts at regional, national, and international venues. We also perform community outreach programs, recruiting endeavors, and collaborative events with other musical organizations.

Our mission is to perform literature at the highest level of artistry, while entertaining and engaging our audiences. As such, we are in the process of recording an album, commissioning new works for our medium, and hosting an annual brass festival at UND.
