Calculus Readiness

Are you ready for your Calculus class?

Check your readiness for your upcoming Calculus class by taking a short self-diagnostic quiz on WeBWorK.

Why Take the Quiz?

The purpose of this diagnostic quiz is to give you an accurate sense of your level of preparation for your upcoming class.  If you score less than 80%, you should strongly consider refreshing the pre-requisite course materials before taking your Calculus class, such as by doing a careful and in-depth review of the topics from your most recent mathematics course.  If you have concerns about your level of preparation based on the results of the diagnostic quiz, please contact your advisor or the UND Department of Mathematics & Statistics for guidance on next steps.

About the Quiz

  • The quiz is not timed but should not take more than 15 minutes to complete.
  • Your grade on the quiz is not recorded.
  • The quiz has 10 questions which cover pre-requisite topics for Calculus.
  • Make sure to read the instructions and input the answer in the required format.
  • Once you have completed all problems, click on the “Check Test” button at the bottom of the page to see your score.

Notation Notes

  1. Type "pi" for π
  2. Type inf or infinity for ∞
  3. Type sqrt(2) for √2
  4. Multiplication is typed with * not with x.
  5. Capitalization matters with variables. X, x, A and a are all different.
  6. Pay attention to the order of operations and correct use of parentheses. For example, if you input 1/2x, it would be read as ½ of x. Instead type 1/(2x).
  7. Input trigonometric functions with parentheses, for example sin(x) instead of sin x.

Take the Quiz

Once you are ready to take the test, click on the WeBWorK link below and login as a “guest”. You do not need to create an account to take the test. Find the test for your class – for example, if you plan to take Calculus 2, click on the “Calculus II Knowledge check” to launch it.
