Auditions
Unrehearsed Shakespeare
Unrehearsed Shakespeare is a performance style where actors perform Shakespearean plays without any prior rehearsal or preparation. Actors will take a workshop to learn the style of how it works and then have one on one text sessions with the director. The later rehearsals are brush ups on the techniques with practices sessions from different Shakespeare shows than the ones we are performing. The shows UND will be performing in this style is 'The Taming of the Shrew', 'Macbeth', and 'Twelfth Night'.
Audition for Unrehearsed Shakespeare at UND
Join our production! We are excited to invite talented and passionate individuals to audition for our upcoming productions. Whether you're an experienced actor or new to the stage, we encourage all students, staff, faculty and community members to come and show their abilities.
Auditions for Unrehearsed Shakespeare a little different. They are in the form of a workshop. No preparation required! If you would like to be cast and participate in any (or all!) of our Unrehearsed productions, please plan on attending at least one of these workshop dates:
- March 15th at 2 p.m.
- March 17th at 6:30 p.m.
- March 18th at 6:30 p.m.
All workshops will be held at the Burtness Theatre. You are required to attend at least one in order to participate in an Unrehearsed Shakespeare production, but are welcome to attend as many of the workshops as you wish!
Also in contrast to a traditional rehearsal process, during the workshop you will have the opportunity to share your availability with the production team and we will do our best to craft your rehearsal experience to your unique schedule. So all availabilities welcome!
Cast
Anyone who signs up for the workshop and wants to be cast will be cast. Casting for each of the Unrehearsed Shakespeare productions will not be publicly announced. You will be contacted by a Stage Manager with your role assignment(s) and possible dates for your text session to help learn your unique part(s)!
Rehearsals
Text sessions are considered a rehearsal and will be scheduled in March via zoom or in person with the director by appointment based on your availability. Practice 'brush-up' rehearsal workshops will be offered April 14-17; you will be required to attend rehearsal on April 16th. However, we encourage you to attend as many of these workshops to practice the technique again in preparation for performance. Tech week will be a little different than a traditional process, they will be more like a long-form rehearsal where we will have the opportunity to practice the Unrehearsed technique in a full show capacity as we prepare for performances. Tech rehearsals will be April 21st-23rd. Similarly to the brush-up rehearsals, we encourage you to attend at least one of these tech days or as many as your schedule allows so you are feeling cool and confident in time for our shows!
Performances
- April 24th (The Taming of the Shrew)
- April 25th (Macbeth)
- April 26th (Twelfth Night)
You do not need to be available for all performance dates in order to participate! Actors have the choice to be cast in any combination of shows or just perform in one all based on their unique availability.
