Internships & Opportunities
Majors and non-majors alike can take advantage of internships & opportunities provided by the Department of Art & Design.
Students can earn course credit and valuable experience by enrolling in Art & Design Internship (Art 481) and interning with a local business or institution.
Past students have interned with the UND Art Collections; the North Dakota Museum of Art; the Public Arts Commission; and the ICON Architectural Group.

Beverly Bushaw Gulmon Memorial Scholarship
The Beverly Bushaw Gulmon Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one or more high school seniors who are interested in Art.
Recipients shall have a proven talent and ability in Visual Arts, scholastic record, and the potential for the successful pursuit of a degree from UND with a major in Visual Arts.
Rod & Carmen Bergstrom Thorpe Scholarship
The Rod & Carmen Bergstrom Thorpe Scholarship is awarded to two freshman students majoring in Visual Arts within the College of Arts and Sciences from North Dakota.
Alma Anderson Scholarship
The Alma Anderson Scholarship is awarded to one or more undergraduate students majoring in Art within the College of Arts and Sciences, who display scholastic achievement and have financial need.
Art & Design Department Scholarship
The Art & Design Department Scholarship is awarded to one or more Art & Design students.
Emma Prepiora Memorial Scholarship
The Emma Prepiora Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one or more students each year who meet the following criteria: majoring in visual arts within the College of Arts and Sciences; good moral character; sincere interest in the visual arts program, specifically painting.
Preferences shall be given to students who were born and raised in the state of North Dakota, preferably in Walsh County, and can establish some Polish ancestry. This scholarship may be awarded to the same student for multiple years, provided a “B” scholastic average is maintained.
Ethel Harriet and Stella Haugan Art Scholarship
The Ethel Harriet and Stella Haugan Art Scholarship is awarded to one or more students who are majoring in Visual Arts within the College of Arts and Sciences.
Recipients shall demonstrate high scholastic ability and personal character.
George and Ellen McKinnon Scholarship
The George and Ellen McKinnon Scholarship is awarded to one or more students majoring in Art & Design within the College of Arts and Sciences.
Grant Dosser Memorial Scholarship
The Grant Dosser Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one student majoring in Graphic Design within the College of Arts and Sciences.
Jackie McElroy-Edwards Art Scholarship
The Jackie McElroy-Edwards Art Scholarship is awarded to one or more graduate or undergraduate students who have an interest in printmaking to help provide materials and equipment needed.
Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need.
Mary Ellen Rogers Memorial Scholarship
The Mary Ellen Roger Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one or more graduate or undergraduate students who are majoring in Fine Arts within the College of Arts and Sciences and have an interest in sculpting.
Preferences shall be given to students who request safety equipment and sculpture materials needed to realize innovative concepts.
Roberta J. Zahradka Scholarship
The Roberta J. Zahradka Scholarship is awarded to one or more students who are studying Art & Design with preference given to students who intend to teach Visual Arts.
Ruth K. Friedman Scholarship
The Ruth K. Friedman Scholarship is awarded to students majoring in Visual Arts within the College of Arts and Sciences.
Recipients shall demonstrate the ability and potential for future achievement.
The Department's Visiting Artist & Scholar Program connects students with the people that work in art and design by bringing to campus professionals accomplished in their respective fields.

Ceramic Arts Organization
The Ceramic Arts Organization's (CAO) goal is to promote and broaden interest in ceramics.
Members are exposed to a broad range of ceramics through fundraisers, events, and the organization's participation in the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts' (NCECA) annual conference.

Photography Club
The Photography Club is for students interested in the fine art of photography.
Club activities include hosting a national juried exhibition of contemporary photography; as well as mounting an exhibition of club members work.

Study Abroad in Italy through the Department's long-time connection with the Florence School of Fine Arts.
The Florence School of Fine Arts offers extraordinary educational and professional opportunities for students by providing a vibrant and inspirational surrounding for art and cultural studies.
The School’s curriculum includes courses in studio art, print media, photography, design, art history, and cinema. Study is punctuated by activities such as lectures by visiting artists and scholars; cultural excursions to museums and exhibitions; as well as field trips throughout Florence and the surrounding area.
For those students who wish to develop their portfolios or add a body of knowledge for personal development or career growth, the School also offers a post-Baccalaureate certificate program.

The Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Program provides emerging artists with the time and facilities to make their work.
Residencies range from 1 to 2 years and culminate in an exhibition of work completed during residence.
