The Myers Foundations
Students throughout campus benefit from the generous funding provided by the Myers Foundations.
Established in 1997 by UND alumnus Colonel Eugene E. Myers and his wife Florence, the Myers Foundations trusts support art in higher education. The trusts have funded an array of art and design related initiatives at UND as well as other institutions that the Colonel had attended such as Columbia University, the University of West Virginia, and Northwestern University.
Colonel Myers was born in Grand Forks and graduated from UND in 1936. He was a decorated war veteran, museum administrator, and philanthropist. He served with distinction in World War II, then went on to earn a master’s degree from Teachers College of Columbia University in drawing, painting and graphics in 1947. After retiring from the Air Force, he became Dean of the Corcoran School of Art and later Vice President for Management of the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
The Myers Foundations support a wide range of projects and facilities on campus such as the Department of Art & Design's Visiting Artist & Scholars Program; and the mounting of exhibitions in the Department's Colonel Eugene E. Myers Art Gallery.
Foundations funds also support the exhibition projects and maintenance of the UND Art Collections; as well as the acquisition of art and design-related research materials for the Chester Fritz Library.
