Marching Band
The Pride of the North Marching Band is much more than a pep band for football games. The band exhibits and expects a high standard of friendship and support.
Performances
We perform a pre-game show and 3 different half time shows a year along with marching in the "Potato Bowl" Parade and Homecoming Parades. We will also travel to one away game and all National Championship appearances.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:10 - 5:40 p.m. and on game day mornings. Sectional rehearsals may be required and will be scheduled by section leaders.
Academic Credit
You must enroll in MUSC 272 for one hour of credit to participate. Drumline students have the option to also enroll in MUSC 277: Drumline for one hour of credit.
Marching Band Camp
The Pride of the North Marching Band has a mandatory band camp that runs before the first week of classes every fall semester. Band camp start dates are as follows:
- Monday, a week before classes begin, for section leaders, color guard/twirlers, and percussionists
- Tuesday, a week before classes begin, for all other members.
Eligibility
Enrollment is open to all University of North Dakota students.
Benefits
As a member of the Pride of the North Marching Band, you will have the opportunity to perform in a musical organization which performs for over a half-a-million people live and countless millions on national television. You'll also get to know over 160 new friends from all over the country that will become your second family.
Attendance
Attendance is held to the highest standard in the Pride of the North Marching Band. Band members are required to attend all rehearsals, all performances, and may be asked to participate in smaller ensembles throughout the semester. However, we know that conflicts will arise, so we are very understanding and do our best to work with members when this happens.
Requirements
Everyone is required to have comfortable shoes to wear to practice - no boots. Please wear tennis shoes or athletic sandals with back straps. As we will be marching outside, we recommend that you bring a water bottle. Many students also bring bug spray. The band does not supply music flip folders, flip folder pages or lyres. If you do not bring these items, Popplers Music will be selling these at our Tuesday night rehearsal. For performances, the band will be wearing Bando High Performance Marching Shoes you can order on the Internet or by calling the Band Shoppe at 1.800.457.3501. The color guard will wear the Algy Team Collection Releve shoes in black.
Residence Halls
If you need to arrive prior to the fall or spring semester check-in date, early-arrival housing is available the one night before band camp starts. If you have questions about early-arrival housing, please call 701.777.4251. Sign-up is available online in Campus Connection beginning August 1.
