Prospective Students

Are you interested in joining the growing field of healthcare?

UND’s Pre-Health Program has produced successful graduates for over 25 years.

Academic Advisement

No matter which pre-health program you choose, you will have access to a health sciences advisor. The health sciences advisor curates an up-to-date curriculum for each pre-health program based off of individual requirements for professional schools across the United States to prepare students to apply to any health professional school in the country. Furthermore, the health sciences advisors, in conjunction with the student's major advisor, work to create customized timelines for the completion of these academic prerequisites as well as non-academic experiences.

Information Sessions

UND's pre-health program includes informational sessions to ensure students are focused on the necessary topics at the appropriate time. There are meetings specific to first-year students designed to orient new students to the expectations of the pre-health program, what professional schools look for in an applicant, and class registration/advisement. In addition, we offer informational sessions on all facets of health professional school admissions, including:

  • Standardized test preparation
  • Application procedures
  • Successful interviewing techniques

Frequently Asked Questions

Pre-health is a compilation of courses and experiences designed to prepare you to apply to health professional programs.

UND has 9 pre-health programs in the College of Arts & Sciences:

  • Pre-Chiropractic
  • Pre-Dentistry
  • Pre-Medicine
  • Pre-Optometry
  • Pre-Osteopathic Medicine
  • Pre-Pharmacy
  • Pre-Physician Assistant
  • Pre-Podiatry
  • Pre-Veterinary Medicine

Incoming UND students can declare a pre-health program through the New Student Orientation Programs. Transfer students should work with their major advisors and can add a pre-health program through the Change of Major Request Form.

Health professional schools do not care what you major in as long as you fulfill their pre-requisite courses. We recommend you consider a major that interests you and fits your parallel plan.

Health professional schools look for well-rounded applicants who demonstrate academic excellence, a passion for the career, commitment to service, and experience in a healthcare setting.

Not all health professional schools accept AP, IB, or CLEP credit for their pre-requisites. We urge all pre-health students to be proactive in planning their education and encourage you to investigate the pre-requisites for any schools you wish to attend.

You may be able to apply AP, IB, or CLEP credits towards your undergraduate degree requirements at UND.

Yes! If you would like to study abroad, make sure you work with the study abroad advisor as well as your major advisor to ensure you remain on track for your major/pre-health program.
