German Studies
Study German at the University of North Dakota.
As a leader in the European Union and on the world stage, Germany’s political, economic, and cultural trajectories influence the world far beyond its borders. So when you declare a major or minor in German Studies, you enter a program that will deepen how you think about the world and your place in it.
By learning German and exploring the literature, film, art, music, architecture, politics, economies, and traditions of German-speaking lands, your ability to communicate in another language and culture will set you apart on the job market.
When you combine a German Studies degree with International Studies, Business, Engineering, Art, Music, Psychology, Political Science, History, English, Education, or other majors, you show future employers that you are ready to engage in a global community.
Study in Germany
The greatest impact on your life's trajectory might come through study abroad — for an academic year or semester at our sister institution, the University of Regensburg in Bavaria, or with a faculty-led summer course in Berlin or Vienna.
German Studies offers several departmental and program scholarships to help offset the costs of studying abroad. We also mentor students who apply for nationally competitive scholarships such as the Congress-Bundestag, RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering), and Fulbright. We have a proven track record of students receiving these awards and would be happy to help you apply for them as well.
Learn by Doing
Classes in the German Studies program encourage and reward your academic success. Dedicated students are eligible to receive scholarships for Excellence in German Studies in all four years of the program.
Participate in German Cooking Club and German Club events, attend the weekly conversation table (Stammtisch), get to know our teaching assistant from Regensburg, and become part of our community. Start with German Studies at UND and see where it takes you!
