Rodney Nelson
DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS
it is late in the afternoon of the year
and getting olden and there are many on
the street and you are groggy with relief and
have unzipped your jacket
the sun is feebler
but hanging on warm and the tune in your mind
has become faint too
most of the words are gone
and only LA BONDAD DEL CORAZÓN Y
LA CLARIDAD DE LA CERVEZA have kept
because of one Mexico and its fire
you may read them
on the next animated
billboard and not hate the city anymore
only nod having made it to this hour
of a late month
you are going to rest the
CLARIDAD DEL CORAZÓN Y LA BONDAD
DE LA CERVEZA while the antique leaves in
the air of an oak park are going to rust
