Meet Our Dean

Brad Rundquist - Dean and Professor

Brad Rundquist

 Dean Rundquist

It is my privilege as Dean to represent and support the talented and devoted faculty, staff, students, and alumni who define the College of Arts & Sciences. The breadth and depth of the College's academic programs today are remarkable and cause for celebration. We consistently work to position our programs to meet evolving societal demands for graduates with high-level knowledge and broad skills who can think critically and communicate effectively within diverse, interdisciplinary social structures and settings.

What excites me most are the opportunities we have for collaborative teaching and research. The problems facing society today – environment, energy, human health and well-being, to name a few – are complex and their solutions require multiple perspectives. College faculty, staff, and students are well-positioned to lead or otherwise meaningfully contribute to interdisciplinary teams established to take on these challenging problems, especially as they manifest themselves in our state and region.

In Arts & Sciences, we believe in the critical importance of a liberal arts education and lifelong learning. I encourage students to explore course offerings from a variety of academic departments while at UND. As an undergraduate, I pursued a major that provided a practical skill (journalism), but my explorations led me to minors in Latin, Biology, and Geography (the discipline in which I eventually earned my Ph.D.). I took my fair share of literature courses too, simply because the course topics interested me. The knowledge and skills that my undergraduate education enabled me to build upon are priceless.

We look forward to hearing from you.
