Meet the Dean
Brad Rundquist
Dr. Rundquist was appointed Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences in 2019, having served as a faculty member in the UND Department of Geography & Geographic Information Science since 2000.
From the Dean
It is my privilege as Dean to represent and support the talented and devoted faculty, staff, students, and alumni who define the College of Arts & Sciences. We are proud to equip our students with the foundational knowledge and skills they need not only to navigate their future careers, but also to enrich their lives. We supply the breadth of essential education to every UND undergraduate and the opportunity to master a wide variety of academic disciplines through our majors and graduate programs. We prepare students to be critical thinkers and problem-solvers who are able to adapt and thrive during times of change, ready to make an impact in North Dakota and beyond.
Guided by a belief in the critical importance of a liberal arts education and lifelong learning, I often encourage students to explore course offerings from a variety of academic departments while at UND. As an undergraduate, I pursued a major that provided a practical skill (journalism), but my explorations led me to minors in Latin, Biology, and Geography (the discipline in which I eventually earned my Ph.D.). I took my fair share of literature courses too, simply because the course topics interested me. The knowledge and skills that my undergraduate education enabled me to build upon are priceless. I am grateful to have the opportunity to support our students in their own learning adventures.
Brad Rundquist, Ph.D.
