Research Initiatives
Internal Research Funding Opportunities
The College of Arts & Sciences is pleased to offer a number of significant, internal
research funding opportunities for faculty to address the State of North Dakota’s
critical needs, support creative activity and scholarship of faculty in the fine arts
and humanities, and provide undergraduate students with research and creative experiences
to enhance their learning.
We also offer awards to support external grant proposal development. In addition,
donor funded endowments like the Joyce and Aqueil Ahmad Endowment for the Promotion
of Peace and Nonviolence and the Itterman Professional Development Endowment provide
funding to support faculty research and professional development across the College
of Arts & Sciences.
For most of these awards, the application deadline is the middle of the fall semester
and the grant period is the following academic or calendar year. Select the specific
award(s) on the left for more information. All faculty are encouraged to apply.
Other Research Opportunities
In addition to a number of internal research funding opportunities, the College is
currently promoting and reviewing internal requests for proposals for the following:
North Dakota Council on the Arts: Community Arts Access Tier 2
Internal Request for Proposals
The North Dakota Council on the Arts limits the number of applicants for the grant from an institution to one. Thus, the
College of Arts and Sciences is requesting that aspiring applicants for the NDCA Community
Arts Access Tier 2 grant submit a white paper. The proposal should be a single page
that describes the project, its importance to the faculty member(s), and the expected
outcomes and benefits to UND.
The College of Arts & Sciences office will review the proposals and make its recommendations
to the VPR, who will make the ultimate decision on which institutional proposal will
receive the university’s endorsement and be allowed to proceed.
Please submit your proposal to the College of Arts & Sciences Dean's Office in MS
Word or .pdf format via email to UND.artssci@UND.edu. In the subject line, please type, "NDCA Community Arts Access Tier 2." Questions
should also be directed to this email.
The deadline for submitting the white paper to the College is March 5, 2021.

less.
- Awards may be less than requested based on a competitive review process.
- Granted funds can cover no more than half of the total expenses for the programming.
- A 1:1 match is required.
- $1,250 is the minimum request (if $1,249 or under, please review the Special Projects
