Dr. Claudia Routon
Associate Professor of Spanish
Director, International Studies
Ph.D., University of Nebraska—Lincoln
Centered on the contemporary literature of Spain, especially by women, Professor Routon's research focuses on the idea of literature as a space for the rehearsals of identity construction; in other words, she looks at how Spanish artists re-imagine nationhood, geography, citizenship, and the role of the individual through fiction, drama, and poetry. Recently Professor Routon's scholarship has grown to include the work of literary translation.
Professor Routon teaches courses in Spanish literature from the Enlightenment through the 21st century, the culture and civilization of Spain within the larger contexts of Mediterranean culture and the European Union, and contributes to the teaching of Spanish conversation, composition, and language.
