Want to know what SIL-UND was all about?
Check out our program overview.
Important notice: Summer 2019 was SIL's last summer on the UND campus. For more details, see this press release or this FAQ. The following information is still being retained for a couple years during the time when M.A. students in linguistics are finishing their programs.
The SIL-UND program prepared students for many different types of work with local spoken and signed languages all over the world, with courses in linguistics, literacy, translation, anthropology, orthography, and language survey. SIL International offered classes in linguistics and related fields at UND every summer from 1952 to 2019, and continues to be responsible for working with M.A. students in linguistics as they finish their programs.
This was classic SIL — an intensive summer program, with full university accreditation, built-around a close-knit residential community in which students, faculty, staff, and their families live and learn together.
SIL-UND is known both for its tradition and its bold innovation.
