An examination of how males and females from different cultural, ethnic and national backgrounds use, and are portrayed by, communication institutions and processes. Covers issues of representation, identity and difference.

THEA 501: African-American, Asian-American, Gay/Lesbian Drama
with Mary Cutler
We will study plays and view films by contemporary writers and enjoy a visit by special guest Claudia Allen, lesbian playwright. Plays will be selected from works by Shange, Wilson, Parks, Baraka, Childress, Wolfe, Hwang, Houston, Kushner, Chambers, McNally and suggestions from the class.
