Opportunity: What Sets UND Apart?
You belong at the University of North Dakota Department of Theatre Arts!
The UND Department of Theatre Arts engages and challenges students like no other program. Our students learn professional work habits, self-reliance, and teamwork in a supportive environment that strives for student success.
UND Theatre keeps a low student to faculty ratio.
We know all of our students! Unlike larger universities and conservatories, UND aims to keep our student to teacher ratio below 10:1. That means all your professors will know you by name, not number, and can provide a much more customized and personal education. The theatre is much like a family, and that is how UND likes it!
UND Theatre ensures opportunities for our students to create.
Why wait until you are a senior to get on stage? UND Theatre works to ensure all of our students get the acting or technical opportunities and exposure they deserve. In most cases, whether in a mainstage production or a student directed production, students get to be involved as freshman. Our faculty help students create and design in every aspect of theatre.
UND Theatre graduates are adaptive, resilient, critical thinkers.
The best artist is a well-educated one. And the best education for an aspiring artist combines intense theatre training with the broad intellectual challenges of a liberal arts education. Every Theatre student is enrolled in a strong liberal arts program of study, from math and sciences, to history and the classics. Theatre draws from any and every discipline and our graduates demonstrate the wide range of interests, and intellectual curiosities a liberal arts education builds upon.
The UND liberal arts courses are custom-crafted to enhance our performing arts environment, using texts, studies and broad exposure to various topics and life experience to develop analytical thinking and cross-cultural, interdisciplinary awareness. What does this all mean? When you leave UND, you are better armed to work, live, and think!
You won't disappear at UND.
The Department of Theatre Arts is a small, intensive program within a much larger University - so while our department offers you the opportunity to thrive, you still get all the benefits of a large University. UND has 208 fields of study, 90 undergraduate majors, 58 different masters degrees, and 24 doctoral programs.
Take a look around campus, and you'll see lots of opportunities to join in everyday. In fact, there are over 270 student organizations on campus!
Whether it's sports (we have nationally ranked teams) the arts (tons of activities), or nature (have you seen our parks?), you'll be sure to run into people who are into the exact same things.
Suddenly, a campus nearly 15,000 students starts to feel pretty tight-knit.
There are many reasons why UND is the perfect match for you!
