Welcome
Note from the Chair
Welcome to the Music Department at the University of North Dakota where we seek to inspire our students and the community through education, performance, scholarship, and human relationships. We strive to provide musical resources for both the UND and the Grand Forks communities. We offer an extensive schedule of events and concerts open to the public during the academic year. Please feel free to explore our calendar of events on this website. Many events are free.
We offer six graduate degree programs: The Ph.D. in Music Education, and the Master of Music in five areas: Composition, Conducting (Choral or Instrumental), Pedagogy (Piano or Voice only), Performance (Clarinet, Trumpet Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion, Piano, Voice, Violin, Viola, and Violoncello), and Music Education. Please look through this website and the academic catalog for more details and information.
The music faculty consists of specialists in the major orchestral and band instruments, voice, piano, music history, composition, conducting, music education, and music therapy. We pride ourselves on personal attention to students, high standards, and a close working relationship with the Grand Forks community. Our facilities include a recital hall, large ensemble rehearsal rooms, individual practice rooms, smart classrooms, a portable computer lab, electronic composition facilities, a music library, a keyboard lab, and access to the Chester Fritz Auditorium and other performing venues throughout the community.
Sincerely,
Michael Wittgraf
