The Department of Music, housed in the north wing of UND's Edmond A. Hughes Fine Arts Center, has complete and modern facilities for advanced education in music. Major instructional features of the music wing include individual practice rooms, rehearsal halls designed specifically for choral and instrumental ensembles, classrooms, keyboard and music technology laboratories and student lockers.
The Music Library contains music scores, recordings, and other musical literature, listening equipment and study space for music students. Hughes Fine Arts Center also has faculty facilities, including administrative offices and private lesson studios.
There are several concert halls are available for use by the Department of Music. The most intimate setting is the Hopper-Danley Memorial Chapel, which can accommodate 140 people and is adjacent to the Hughes Fine Arts Center. The Josephine Campbell Recital Hall, located in the Hughes Fine Arts Center, is a 200-seat, acoustically tuned facility with professional lighting and sound systems. A more casual venue that has hosted events which have included a swing dance is the The Ballroom located on campus at the Memorial Union. The largest hall, located on campus, is the nearby 2,300-seat Chester Fritz Auditorium, regarded as one of the finest performance facilities in the Upper Midwest. The Department of Music also hosts events in the historic Empire Arts Center in downtown Grand Forks.
