Major Requirements
Following are the new requirements beginning Fall 2011
Students planning to pursue a major through the program should declare Pre-Communication as their intended major. In order to reach the next level, that of Admitted Major, Pre-Communication and those who are pursuing an Admitted Minor status must:
• Pass Comm 102 Communication and the Human Community or 103 Information, Technology and Social Change with a grade of C or better
• Pass English 110 and 120 College Composition I & II (or English 110 and 125 College Composition I and Technical & Business Writing) with a grade of B or better.
• Have a 2.50 overall GPA (which must be continued in order to take courses in Communication. At graduation, GPA must also be at least 2.50.)
• Have earned at least 24 semester credits
• Have his or her assigned faculty adviser approve a personal Plan of Study contract
Bachelor's of Arts with a Major in Communication requires a minimum of 125 credits
including:
- Essential Studies requirements (with the exception of Comm 110, Communication courses can not be used to meet these requirements)
- Liberal Arts Courses (Traditional Liberal Arts departments include: Anatomy, Anthropology, Art, Biology, Chemistry, English, Fine Arts, Geography, Geology, History, Humanities, Honors, Indian Studies, Languages, Mathematics, Music, Peace Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Physics, Psychology, Religion, Sociology, Theatre Arts, and Women Studies.)
- Required Communication credits, earning a grade C or better. See below for details on Major Requirements
Of the 80 credits taken outside your major, 65 must include Essential Studies and Liberal Arts credits. A minimum of 37, maximum of 45 credits can be Communication courses. Of all courses taken, 36 credits must be 300 level or above, and 60 credits must be from a four-year institution.

General Education Requirements - Past/present students attending prior to fall 2008 and transfers prior to fall 2009 must enroll according to General Education requirements.
Essentials Studies Requirements - Students enrolling fall 2008 must enroll according to the Essential Studies program.
CAUTION!

All juniors are strongly encouraged to go to the Communication Program Academic Advisor for a degree audit to make sure that you are on track to graduate.
