Donald Miller, Professor
E-mail: donald_miller@und.nodak.edu
Professor Donald Miller has taught ceramics at the University of North Dakota since 1970. He received his BFA at North Dakota State University, his MA from New Mexico Highlands University, and his MFA from Mills College. The ability of thrown clay to impart the attributes of life continues to fascinate and challenge Miller. He works to produce a form that provides a compelling visual journey. The once soft clay is now hard and durable and it conveys subtle rhythmic images, which are metaphors to express life and relationships. Miller believes a regular work cycle provides opportunities for fresh ideas to emerge.
In addition to his clay making, Miller continues to research and document the UND Pottery Collection. The collection is an important resource for collectors and dealers and provides a positive outreach image to the world. His goal is to have a complete inventory available on the web as a research tool by the end of this academic year. Both images and information about the forms would be included.
