American Indian Studies Requirements
Requirements (starting 2015/16)
Required for the B.A. in American Indian Studies:
36 credit hours in the Major and a concentration in an area or field other than American Indian Studies (either proficiency in a language or a minor in another subject field).
Of these, the following courses are required:
230 Approaches to Native Cultures OR IS 346 American Indian Women
240 Research and Writing
395 Ethnohistory of North America OR any of the Tribal History Courses
410 Indigenous Identities
and 24 credit hours in electives from the American Indian Studies curriculum, in accordance with advisor recommendations.
Required for the Minor in American Indian Studies:
21 credit hours in American Indian Studies, at least 12 of which are 300-level or above.
The maximum combined credit hours taken from any one instructor to be
counted towards the minor is twelve; to fulfill the requirements of the minor, a
student has to take courses from at least three different instructors (if three different instructors are not available this requirement can be waved).
