About the Dean
Dr. Debbie Storrs was selected to succeed Dr. Kathy Tiemann as Dean of UND's College of Arts & Sciences in the Spring of 2013.
Dr. Storrs was named Associate Dean of the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Idaho in February 2007. She also served as Interim Chair of the Department of Modern Languages & Cultures, August 2008-July 2009.
She joined the University of Idaho as assistant professor of sociology in 1997, becoming associate professor in 2003, and a professor in 2010.
Storrs earned a Ph.D. in sociology and an M.S. in sociology, University of Oregon, and a B.A. in sociology, University of Alaska, Anchorage. Her research focuses on teaching pedagogy, community action and health inequities, qualitative methods and narratives, racial/gendered identities, and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education. Her publication record includes an edited book, several book chapters and many refereed journal articles.
Storrs has received many awards, including the Teaching Excellence Award (2003), Advising Excellence Award (2007), and Martin Luther King Jr. Faculty Award (2004), all University of Idaho; Virginia Wolf Distinguished Service Award (2003), University of Idaho Women's Center; Humanities Fellow (2006-07); Athena Woman of the Year Award (2010); 2009 Distinguished Contribution to Sociological Perspectives Award for her article, "Critical Literacy Among the Working Poor"; Phi Kappa Phi Outstanding Faculty Member Award (2007); Naval ROTC Faculty Excellence Award (2007); and Alumni Associate Award for Excellence (2006).
